Asset Overview

3D scan of a cast of a *Tyrannosaurus rex* skull from South Dakota, USA. The dinosaur lived 68 to 66 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous. It was bipedal (two-legged) and one of the last large terrestrial carnivores that lived before the mass extinction event, that, among many others, killed all non-avian dinosaurs. *Tyrannosaurus rex* is probably **the** most well-known dinosaur, with many people even knowing his full scientific name. The cast of the skull of *Tyrannosaurus rex* can be found in Hall 10 of the NHM Vienna and stands next to the skull of a [*Triceratops horridus*](https://skfb.ly/o6uOT). **Specimen**: *Tyrannosaurus rex* (Osborn, 1905) **Inventory number**: NHMW-Geo 1998z0049/0001 **Collection**: Natural History Museum Vienna, Geology & Paleontology Dept., Vertebrate Coll. (curator: Ursula Göhlich) Find out more about the NHMW [here](http://www.nhm-wien.ac.at/en). Scanned and edited by Viola Winkler (NHMW) Scanner: Artec Leo. Infrastructure funded by the FFG.
