Asset Overview
22 Cortlandt Street - New-York
Originally built as a branch of the East River Savings Bank at 26 Cortlandt Street between 1931 to 1934, this small Art-deco building would later be expanded in 1971 with an International-styled office tower to be called 22 Cortlandt Street built on top while preserving the original building.
According to Wikipedia, the original bank was designed by Walker & Gillette while the tower addition would be designed by Emery Roth & Sons.
The building sits along the remaining block of Cortlandt Street that ends at Church Street and stands adjacent to the World Trade Center Complex.
When the East River Savings Bank merged with other firms, the Century 21 Department Store would eventually move into the building and found its flagship store here.
The Store suffered significant damage during the September 11th Attacks, but would survive, renovate, and reopen in 2002.
