This is a 3D scan of a desk, taken with the Intel RealSense D415 3D camera. A free trial of Dot Product 3D was used for the scanning software and the vector map was loaded into MeshLab to create the mesh. A very basic Screened Poisson surface generator was applied and you can see how the edges have been left as big smooth areas whereas the center is what the camera picked up.
I took 3 scans which, if combined, would give a much more accurate view. There was also a lot of edge information that has been lost, including a bulletin board by the side where you could see each sheet of paper stuck to it (but not read it). The limitation is the power of the computer I'm using for mesh processing, a faster computer would let me do more advanced surface reconstruction.
