Asset Overview
This abandoned monastery is located two kilometers north-east of the village Prastio of the Keokedaron apartment and functions as a chapel of the village of Trachidala. The temple, which was repaired and several ruined cells, is being saved. The temple was originally a three-aisled church, today only the middle aisle is preserved and covered with a pitched roof. The monastery was probably founded in 1120 by St. John's, the one of Malokas, of the district of Keloekaron-Saint John, the later Metropolitan of Paphos. St. John was the first abbot of the monastery, other abbots whose names were known were: Gerasimos, Arsenios, Ignatius and Joachim. The Brotherhood of the Monastery was dissolved in the 1920s for unknown reasons. The church operates on December 5, which is the feast of Saint Savva, and Easter Monday.
