Another survivor of the 1904 Great Baltimore Fire is the Alex. Brown and Sons Company building. Built in 1901 for Alex Brown and Sons, the oldest investment banking firm in the United States. The architecture firm Parker and Thomas designed the building, and the stained-glass dome inside is thought to be the work of Gustave Baumstark. This Beaux-Arts style building retains much of its elaborate, impressive marble and bronze interior and stained glass dome after the fire.
The building is currently up for lease after being converted to a white tablecloth restaurant in 2019. The former restaurant closed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic in May of 2020.
