Because of its excellent state of preservation, the Roman villa on the Silberberg in Ahrweiler is one of the most exciting Roman architectural monuments north of the Alps. The ancient walls were buried in a landslide in the 5th century A.D., so that the site survived the centuries like a time capsule. Even the colourful wall paintings with their figural and floral motifs can still be admired in their original form in many places. The visitor can take a look into the kitchen, the bath house and even into the underfloor heating. The building is extraordinarily complex and consists of a number of phases resulting from almost five hundred years of use. A highly accurate 3D image will help to solve the last mysteries of the site.
Today the Roman building is protected in a museum and offers a unique insight into the Roman history of the Rhineland. https://www.bad-neuenahr-ahrweiler.de/roemervilla-ahrweiler/
