Carved Stone Lintel with Cross, Arcidosso

Carved stone lintel with Medieval cross on Via Codaccio, Arcidosso, Grosetto, Tuscany. Stratigraphic analyses dates the lintel to the second half of 12th c. [source: M. De Falco, 2004-2005, ref. AVM4, usm 203] It may be a solar cross (a Greek cross inscribed in a circle). This symbol has been used by various cultures over thousands of years to refer to the sun god. Christianity assimilated this symbol to identify Jesus Christ. In fact, in many representations of Jesus it is possible to find it emerging behind his head. Model was created in Reality Capture using 13 photographs. The Mt.
