Asset Overview
This is the high cross in the churchyard of St. Lawrence's church, Eyam, Derbyshire, UK. The cross is labelled "Celtic cross: 8th century" -- well, 8th century is possible, but 9th century is preferred by authorities such as the Corpus of Anglo-Saxon Stone Sculpture (https://chacklepie.com/ascorpus/catvol13.php?pageNum_urls=108) and Historic England (https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1100263?section=official-list-entry). Celtic is wrong; respectable commentators say Anglo-Saxon, Anglian or Mercian (though that last one may be unfair to the Pecsaetna). It stands around 2.5m tall in its present state.
