Asset Overview

Citigroup Center, now known as 601 Lexington Avenue, is a skyscraper that is located in Midtown Manhattan at 53rd Street. Built in 1977 and standing at 915 feet tall, it is one of the tallest buildings in the world with a narrow base. This building has been said it nearly collapsed shortly after its completion, this was in September of 1978. The steel beams of the building had been reinforced right before the 70-mph wind storm hit New York. If the building was not reinforced, then it would have caused a domino-like effect to a majority of the Manhattan skyline and New York could've been half-destroyed. Fortunately, this building was saved thanks to a female student who was studying about this building and noticed a big mistake based on the design of the building itself. The building has been designated as a landmark in 2016 due to its incredible 45-degree slanted roof.
