The remains of a stables for the horses and ponies associated with the mine workings at Combs Wood. Horses and/or ponies would have pulled the wagons of iron ore though the mines and possibly along the tramways to the main railway line. The stone sets within the floor show former layout and process flow; postholes illustrate the size of the stalls; drainage shows the extent of the stables and hygienic regimes; and, different surfaces illustrate pedestrian and animal zones. The quality of the floor indicates how valuable these animals were for the mine workings.
