This Convict Depot was part of the British Colonial system of prisons which included the The Royal Gaol Port of Spain, Laventlle, Carrera Island, Mt Hope, Destrict prison were at Chagunas, Cedros, Mayaro, Toco, Blanchisseuse and the Scarborough convict depot in Tobago. A juvenile prison was located at St. James, Mucurapo and later a Boys' Reformatory, under the auspices of the Church of England in Diego Martin in Trinidad. The Mt Hope prison developed as an agriculture farm prison made of prison farm gangs that was build during the British Development period after the Port of Spain prison was built the Laventille and Mount Hope prison was built which both could hold one hundred prisoners.
