Due to the fire at Notre-Dame de Paris on 15 April 2019, the church acts as a diocesan cathedral for major ceremonies in accordance with the wishes of the Archbishop of Paris. On 23 May 2022, the new Archbishop of Paris, Laurent Ulrich, was installed at Saint-Sulpice.
