GLOBAL YUSTE CHOIR

Monasterio de Yuste, Logroño, Spain In the choir of the church, at the foot of the building, there is one of the most important pieces of the building, the ashlar. The authorship of the work carried out in the first third of the sixteenth century is unknown, although the stylistic differences between the lower and upper part of it suggest that the gestation of the work goes back to the late fifteenth century, within a few Gothic postulates. Composed of 61 sites, 31 highs and 30 lows, in addition to a bench of three seats, its iconography is dominated by the fauna, both real and fantastic, full of symbology of vices and virtues. For their negative qualities appear the dog, the deer or the peacock, allegories, among others, of gluttony, dirt and pride, respectively Scenes of criticism of the vices and social customs of meanings well known at the time, also appear in various places, for example, friars who criticize the custom of drinking, or mythological themes, such as the works of Hercules.
