Asset Overview

Heritage homes in the Philippines is influenced by Spanish architecture, especially ones in cities and large luxury homes. Howevever, moreso than colonial architecture, our homes are heavily inspired by what the environment around us provides. This is especially apparent in more remote areas far away from the cosmopolitan influences. This small snapshot I recreated of a Philippine home features a balcony made up of unfinished wood, and capiz shell windows draped with bouganvillea flower vines. The balcony is a highlight of any home that was functioned almost like a porch is to Western culture. During the day, it's a great place to people watch and just enjoy some sun and in the night, it serves as a lookout for young ladies as they listen and flirt with their serenaders ('harana'). While the practice of the 'harana' has been long phased out, Filipinoes will carry that love of music and joyful togetherness till this very day. I mean, have you ever seen a Pinoy turn down karaoke?:p
