The Palm-Lundgren family monument is located in Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, NE. Olof and Clara Palm were Swedish immigrants who started a successful insurance company. The marble monument depicts a women holding a rose carved in relief. The choice of marble reflects the replacement in the 19th century of local materials with white marble and limestone markers. This was because of improved transporation infrastructure thanks to newly constructued railroads and canals. Classical imagery is common in 19th century monuments like the Palm-Lundgren monument. Archaeological excavations at Pompeii and Herculaneum led to a growing interest in the Classical World, and associated imagery.
