Asset Overview

This is a high resolution model of graffiti on one of the external faces of the Dwarfie Stane tomb, Hoy, Orkney. The panel is dominated by a large inscription by William Henry Mounsey, which include his name written backwards in Latin 'YESNVOM SVMLEILVC', the date 'A.D. 1850' and an inscription in Persian. The inscription translates as 'I have sat two nights and so learnt patience'. To the right of this is another inscription in Persian, possibly the same quote, that has been largely removed by pecking. The latter shows up well in matcap mode, as does a wide range of more subtle engravings. A complete 3d model of the tomb can be seen here: https://skfb.ly/IIYS Form more information on the Dwarfie Stane visit: https://canmore.org.uk/site/1597/hoy-dwarfie-stane
