Santuario della Madonna delle Grazie (Arcidosso)

Santuario della Madonna delle Grazie (or dell’Incoronata) Arcidosso (GR), Italy was built as an ex voto for the end of the Black Death of 1348. Placed across the main street outside the ancient castle of Arcidosso, facing Sant’Andrea church, it was originally much smaller. The ancient chapel occupied more or less the presbitery space of the current building. The additions began in the 15th century. The Church became a Renaissance building filled with a notable artworks. The Madonna delle Grazie is one of the holiest sanctuaries in the Amiata. There are five altars, made in plaster, marble and stone, and many oil on canvas paintings of sacred images by the Sienese Renaissance school. They include a Virgin Mary in Glory among the Saints Sebastiano and Rocco, by Ventura Salimbeni, and a Madonna with Child dating to the early 1400s, from the Palazzo del Capitano di Arcidosso.
