This is a diorama of a beach in Thailand being used as a base of operations for poaching fishermen.
The old lighthouse was abandoned when a new, bigger lighthouse was being built closer to the port. Many captains had complained that it was too far away from the new port, and that it was a big safety hazard. The lighthouse was abandoned and stayed that way for 10 years.
During the 1998 Asian financial crisis, many people had to resort to illegal fishing In the area. The old lighthouse seemed like a good place to go fishing, as it was relatively far away from the village but easy to spot from the sea. The fishermen even constructed a small cabin there to hold their equipment.
In 2015, the Thai government got a warning from the European Commision, this warning stated that the government didn't take enough actions against poachers. The poachers near the lighthouse could see a storm coming, and immedeately fled the area as soon as they heard the news. They knew that the lighthouse would soon be searched...
