Troglodyte Reservoir - Château de la Roche-Guyon

Ce réservoir troglodyte creusé dans la falaise crayeuse fait partie du domaine du château de La Roche-Guyon, Val-d'Oise, France. Il faisait à l'origine 22 m de long sur 30 m de large avec une profondeur de 3 m (contenance de plus de 600 mètres cubes). Le réservoir est alimenté par un aqueduc captant l'eau à Chérence (à 3.2km) pour alimenter le château, mais également le potager, le parc et la fontaine du XVIIIème sur la place près de la mairie, permettant aux habitants d'avoir de l'eau fraîche plutôt que de puiser l'eau de la Seine. This water cistern is directly dug into the chalky cliff of the La Roche-Guyon castle in France. It originally was 22m by 30m and 3m deep (almost 600 meters cube). The water is coming from the town of Chérence (3.2km away) to give water to the castle, but also the garden, the parc, and the XVIIIth century fountain in the village, allowing the inhabitants to have fresh water instead of taking water from the Seine.
