The Statue of this guardian Lion lies at entrance gate to Taleju Temple in Hanuman Dhoka inside Kathmandu durbar square, a UNESCO world heritage site.
There are a pair of these at each side of the main door. This temple together with the door and the guardian lion was built in 1564 by Mahendra Malla.
As you can see, the sculpture is made from several parts from bottom to top and moss is present on these lines. Cracked paint let us know it was not renovated for a long time, as it's often the case for many ancient sculptures in Kathmandu. We can also observe that one ear' part is missing.
