Freeform Home Design Challenge
The study of the Caterpillar triggers us several main ideas:
- Invertebrate structure allowing free form design
- Convex morphology which allows maximum usable area with minimum material usage
- Segmentation allowing modulated construction adaptable to various reliefs and the possibility of future growth by attaching new modules.
- The pattern of its various spiracles located in their exoskeleton inspire us to illuminate the interior through light bubbles
- The presence of legs in each segment led us to incorporate foundations in every constructed module
In the pursuit of an energy efficient house we focused in achieving proper sun orientation, natural illumination, ventilation, isolation and rain collecting through various techniques.
In conclusion the worm house meets all the necessary requirements (context adaptability, functional variability, energy efficiency, minimum material usage and environmental consciousness) to become the house of the future.
