Asset Overview

3D scan of a giant tortoise from the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador. For a long time, the giant tortoises of the Galápagos volcanic islands were seen as one species. Now they are considered to be separate species, most of which were eradicated in historic times. *Chelonoidis abingdonii*—of which one specimen is shown here—lived on Abingdon Island. This specimen was acquired by the NHM Vienna in 1914. The Abingdon Galápagos tortoise is Number 69 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 28 of the NHM Vienna. **Specimen**: *Chelonoidis abingdonii* (Günther, 1877) **Inventory number**: NHMW-Zoo-HS 4196 **Collection**: Natural History Museum Vienna, 1st Zoological Dept., Herpetology Coll.
