Asset Overview

The impressive beard and curls make it clear that this is a god. He is holding something - a liver? If so, we are looking at Aesculapius, god of medicine. Romans used to place this type of votive statuette at an altar and pray for healing. The cult spread to Rome from Greece, where the god was called Asklepios. Bronze, Italy (?), ca. 1st century BC.
