Asset Overview

The Hallisches-Tor-Bruecke (fka. Belle-Alliance-Bruecke), a massive stone bridge after the design of Johann Heinrich Strack and Erich Dietrich, spans the Landwehrkanal since 1876. 1877, four sculptors were tasked with one allegorical marble sculpture (relating to the meaning of the Landwehrkanal) each. Bildhauer Eduard Lürssen (1840-1891) - Gewerbefleiss - fragmented in WWII Friedrich Reusch (1843-1906) - Fruchthandel - disappeared in WWII Julius Moser - Fischfang - restored to the original site Otto Geyer (1843-1914) - Flussschifffahrt - restored to the original site The latter two were removed 1902 for aesthetic reasons after the nearby railway station was expandedin 1902 and placed in front of the Kreuzberger Melanchtonkirche am Planufer where they escaped destruction during WWII. The Melanchtonkirche (church) was heavily damaged and explosively demolished in 1957. To be continued... ==>
