Asset Overview

This antler comb was found during excavations at Clachtoll Broch in Sutherland. It dates to the Iron Age and was used in textile production, possibly for wool combing. There are signs of use-wear around the perforation, showing where it has been suspended on a cord or string, perhaps carried by the person who used it, or simply hung for storage. There is also some wear between the teeth indicating that, despite looking pretty pristine, it had indeed been used. Excavations at Clachtoll Broch were carried out on behalf of [Historic Assynt](https://www.facebook.com/historicassynt/) as part of [Coigach & Assynt Living Landscape](https://coigach-assynt.org/).
