Asset Overview

Anton Hueber (1861-1935) was a trade union leader and politician in Austria-Hungary and the First Republic. Hueber was a founding member of the supra-regional Reichsgewerkschaftskommission in Cisleithania (1893) and served as its secretary from 1895. In the course of the centralization of the movement, he became the most important trade union representative in the Habsburg state. After the collapse and revival of the trade unions in the years 1914-1918, Hueber also assumed various public offices during the First Republic. In 1931 the municipality of Vienna appointed him a citizen of the city of Vienna. His work was honoured by the naming of a residential complex, the Hueberhof in the 10th district of Vienna. On the occasion of the 3rd All-Austrian Trade Union Day in 1953, a bust of Anton Hueber was unveiled. The marble monument was made by Mario Petrucci.
