The presented English delftware type faience apothecary vase comes from the collection of Mateusz Bronisław Grabowski (1904–1976). The cartouche contains a pharmacy inscription: C[ONSERVA]: CYNOSBAT[I], i.e. rose preserve. The raw material used to make this preparation was the dog rose fruit (Rosa canina L.), also called rosehip (Fructus Cynosbati).It was a mild laxative, also recommended for kidney stones.
