Asset Overview

The vase is egg-shaped and is equipped with a wide, short mouth and two handles. The entire surface of the vase is decorated with a stylised palm motif (a so-called Persian palmetto) in the shades of blue, orange and green. In the middle of the belly, in an oblong field, there is an inscription: DIASORBITO(N), i.e. a confection or other pharmaceutical condiment made from rowanberries. The raw material could have been the common rowan (Sorbus aucuparia L.) or the domestic rowan (Sorbus domestica L.). Rowanberry preparations exhibited antidiarrheal and diuretic effects. They were also recommended for treating kidney stones and scurvy ID no.: KGZ 5925 Time of creation: 16th century Museum: The Museum of Pharmacy at the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Kraków https://muzea.malopolska.pl/en/objects-list/965 Digitalisation: RDW MIC, Virtual Małopolska project
