Asset Overview
Tauruscatapsy
was an exercise in which gymnasts performed demonstrations of agility, on foot or on horseback with the mediation of a wild bull. Although the term taurocatapsia was originally used to describe the bull jumps that were practiced in Thessaly in classical times, the term has become widespread to encompass those of other times and places. Thus, it is a motif of the figurative art of the Middle Bronze Age, and in particular of Minoan art, where scenes of this activity appear on numerous occasions, both in the decoration of walls and in stamps and in some figurines.
