The Barbute is a type of Italian Helmet during the XV century, wich the name meaning "bearded" ( derived from the Italian Barbuta, maybe cause the front aperture allows to see the beard of it owner ).
This headgear was an evolution of the European Bascinet and was worn principally by footmans, in Italia and Switzerland.
