Asset Overview

What do we see here on a sandstone outcrop exposed from below its turf cover? A natural rock surface as it was left by ice, weathering and erosion? An artificial surface created by man on which he has left some faint figures and two possible cup marks? If artificial, is it a surface quarried for stone, or a surface altered, perhaps to remove existing carvings? If something was removed - what was it, by who and why? Could the two cups be a clue to what was there before? Are we seeing desecration of an older cup and ring tradition and its replacement by carved figures of gods and goddesses? Wild conjecture maybe. Use the silver **matcap** view in the **model inspector** to let your imagination wander like mine. Comments and explanations gratefully received.
