Asset Overview

The arched niche (arcosolium) for 2 graves (plus some later tombs above them; today destroyed) is located on the left side of a burial chamber near the end of the main corridor in the lower level of the catacomb. The paintings may date from the 4th century A.D., but are destroyed to a certain extent. The ceiling shows a geometric pattern, the fields of which are filled with reddish blooms and cruciform or round objects. A hanging garland is preserved on both side walls. While on the right one below it you recognize (perhaps) only the foot and parts of a standing bird, on the left wall you see clearly a chubby bird, mostly identified as duck. 3D model was made in RealityCapture software using 183 images and 2 laser scan positions. Additional processing was completed in Geomagic Wrap, InstantMeshes, and Blender. The descriptions were provided by Seniorprofessor Dr. Dieter Korol, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster
