I have based this model of a celtic brooch (penannular brooch) on examples in the British Museum although the detailing is of my own design. This item would have been typical of the type of brooch found in Scotland and Ireland 700 - 900 CE. It would have worn by men and women and used to join items of clothing - usually worn at the shoulder or breast. The pin would be facing upwards. See image below on how it would have been fastened.
