Asset Overview

Chemise, Egypt, radiocarbon dating: 1150 - 1260 with 95.4% of probability, linen, silk embroidery, Don Errera, 1900 - 1905. Musée du Cinquantenaire (Brussels, Belgium). Made with CpaturingReality. This linen shirt or quamis was once one of the many layers of clothing of a wealthy Egyptian woman. Below was a wide pair of trousers over a dress. The outfit was completed by a coat and one or more wraps. Finely and regularly woven linen was chosen for this shirt. Previously embroidered, it was then cut according to a pattern and sewn. The extent given to the base and the pieces encrusted under the armpits make the shirt cool to wear and give freedom of movement to the body.
