Asset Overview

Like so many other pieces of armour in the Royal Armoury's collection, this helmet was made in Augsburg, Germany in the 1540s. This helmet features a collar of three interlocking riveted plates as protection for the wearer’s neck. The helmet visor consists of two parts; a visor with a horisontal viewing slot that can be lifted separately and an upper-bevor with breathing holes. 2-piece slotted visors became increasingly common during the second quarter of the 16th century. Along the edges and on both sides of the helmet comb there is an etched decor.
