Asset Overview

**Closed shackle padlock** How did this US-made Samson Eight Lever padlock end up in the Świątniki Museum? Given visible dings, scratches, and traces of prying the outer layer of sheet metal open, somebody must have attempted to check how its mechanism worked. Initially, locksmiths and padlock makers from Świątniki examined how others did it. On the basis of the knowledge gained in this way, they created their own mechanisms, being a compilation of experience gained through looking at the work of others. The inhabitants of Świątniki brought back all sorts of padlocks from their numerous journeys. All in order to choose from among their mechanisms those which would fulfill local needs. Did the padlock reach Świątniki Górne in this way? Perhaps. **For more images and further information, visit:** https://muzea.malopolska.pl/en/objects-list/132 Location: Marcin Mikuła Locksmithing Museum in Świątniki Górne, Poland **Digitalisation: Regional Digitalisation Lab, MIK, Virtual Museums of Małopolska project**
