Asset Overview

The presented item is a refracting telescope on a tall equatorial mount tripod. The tube is made of wood, the 8 cm diameter objective and the retractable eyepiece are fixed in brass rings at opposite ends of the tube. The spotting scope is attached to the declination axis, which ends in a spherical metal counterweight on the other side. The declination axis is movably attached to the hour-angle axis. The telescope was of compact size and offered quick disassembly, making it a convenient portable instrument. It was brought to the Astronomical Observatory in Kraków in 1834 by Józef Łęski.
