Asset Overview

A sculptural group from 1705 depicting a mythological story about Cupid and Psyche. Cupid and Psyche is a story originally from Metamorphoses, written in the 2nd century AD by Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis (or Platonicus). The tale concerns the overcoming of obstacles to the love between Psyche and Cupid (or Amor – "Love"; also Eros and Psyche), and their ultimate union in a sacred marriage. A sculptural group from the workshop of Giovanni Giuliani (1664–1744) was created in 1705 on the order of Count Dominic Andreas von Kaunitz (1655–1705). Today the baroque statue is located in the garden of the Austerlitz Castle (Slavkov u Brna). Material: limestone; height (approx.): 450 cm. _____ *Photo from today's location:* ![](https://austerli.cz/IMG/preview/Cupid-and-Psyche_Austerlitz-web.jpg)
