Asset Overview

Dún Ailinne is **located on private land** south of Kilcullen in Co. Kildare. The first excavations (1968-1975) focused on the hill summit and established that there was activity from the Neolithic (5000BC) onwards. The evidence recovered indicated that the site would have served as a major prehistoric center during Irish prehistory, particularly during the Iron Age, and acted as a place where communities came together to enact ritual and ceremony. Since 2016, new investigations have recovered several features and artifacts including this glass bead in 2019. Its form and decoration indicate that it is a Frankish import from the mid-6th to 7th century CE. More information on the bead can be found in the [Archaeology Ireland Summer 2020 issue](shorturl.at/dkouU). The bead is currently stored in the National Museum of Ireland. **This model was created using reference photos in Blender by K. Wyatt, head of the [3D Scanning Lab at the University of Oklahoma Libraries]((https://sketchfab.com/libedge))**.
