Asset Overview

Scan by [Christer Lindqvist](https://sketchfab.com/Pappac). Retopology by Niclas Ekholm. Death mask in plaster depicting the famous swedish songwriter and musician Carl Micahel Bellman. Made in 1935 from one of several copies of the original death mask. The use of death masks became common in Europe during the latter part of the Middle Ages. They were created from direct castings of the deceased's faces. The masks were usually made of wax or plaster and were often made in several copies that could be displayed in different contexts. The mask has the inventory number SSM 42005 in the City Museum Collection.
