Asset Overview

Dig Village, Dunster Oct 2015 Trench 28 was a 1m sq test pit situated in a garden in Church Street, in the heart of the town. Finds included a Charles II florin from a metalised surface, providing good dating evidence. Most interesting was the wall that protruded through that suface. It's alignment is completely different to the 600 year old house next to it, and certainly even older. It was speculated that the alignment may be closer to the original Saxon road through Dunster, making it possibly the oldest structure yet found in the town. Time did not permit further expansion of the trench to investigate further. Captured 31-10-2015 10am
