Asset Overview

Ecphora gardnerae is a species of extinct predatory ocenebrinid murex gastropod. Shells of E. gardnerae are found in Miocene-aged marine strata of Maryland and Virginia. As of October 1, 1994 the Ecphora was designated the official fossil shell of Maryland by the Maryland General Assembly. Miocene era, St. Marys formation from Calvert County, Maryland ~5.3 – 23.7 million years old.
