Asset Overview
In 1821 a Neolithic cairn on Eday, Orkney, Scotland, was demolished to allow a new church to be constructed. This 1.4m long slab of stone exhibiting finely pecked spirals, which was probably a linel in the tomb, was found in the demolition rubble.
The motifs on this stone are characteristic of Late Neolithic passage grave art found in western Britain and Ireland.
This stone is on display at National Museums Scotland and was photographed under museum lighting conditions.
