This toothbrush made of carved bone was recovered from a privy associated with a brothel that once stood at 27-29 Endicott Street in the North End of Boston. One of several toothbrushes recovered along with many other artifacts relating to personal hygiene, the handle depicts two snake heads facing toward one another. Objects like these provide insight to the daily lives of those who lived and worked in Boston's 19th century red light district, while also conveying a sense of aesthetic.Scanned by Brian Schools.
