Asset Overview
Entombment, fragment of altarpiece, southern Netherlands, circa 1540, oak, pickled. Musée d'Art et d'Histoire (musée du Cinquantenaire, Brussels, Belgium). Made with CapturingReality.
The style of this work in high relief is reminiscent of works by Jean Mone, an artist from Metz who settled in Mechelen in 1524. The Italianate plastic of this sculpture abounds the illusion process of the depth obtained in the altarpieces late Gothic by superimposing the statuettes, the others on the inclined planes.
