Asset Overview

BIRUG 100026 is a specimen of a crab from the Ypresian Stage of the Eocene (56.0–47.8 million years ago). This crab was found on the Isle of Sheppey, on the North Kent coast, in the London Clay Formation. The Eocene was a very warm time period; the London Clay in particular is well-known for its array of fossil plants and seeds, including tropical palms. This specimen forms part of the Lapworth’s Bruce Collection, having been collected by John Arthur Bruce in 2013 and donated to the museum in 2014. This specimen was digitised by Lee Manders, using an Artec Spider 3D scanner.
