Asset Overview

This pre-Columbian artifact is a lump of fired clay that someone squeezed in their right hand, leaving behind deep finger and thumb impressions. It was recovered from Tick Island in Volusia County Florida and contains abundant freshwater sponge spicules, linking it to potter made in the region bewteen around 3,500 and 500 years ago. The artifact is housed at the Rollins College Archaeology Lab. Model by Ellie Minette.
