Asset Overview

Forgery of a Roman funeral pedestal of Quinto Cecílio Volusiano, made in the 16th century by André de Resende. It is carved in marble. On its main face it retains the following inscription: “CILIO . Q . F . / VOLVS ... AEF .../ COH I C R SEX / PROVOC VICTORI / DON DONATO AB / IMPER ... II HAST / PVR III VEXIL ... / ... CIVI IMVR / HII OBSIIT ... NIB .../ HIS IN REP . S FVNC / EBORENS CIVI OPT / ... MERITA EIVS IN / MUNIC MARMOR / BASI AENE D. D.”. It is currently preserved in the Frei Manuel do Cenáculo National Museum (Évora, Portugal). Catalog No. ME1841.
