Asset Overview
Heavy French 12 Pounder field gun used in the French Revolutionary wars and Napoleonic wars. Wood is painted olive green and metal painted black according to regulations for French guns in 1808.
The Gribeauval system revolutionised French army field artillery in the 1760s and his reforms paved the way for their legendary use by Napoleon in his conquests of Europe 1805-1815. This cannon is a complete historical recreation of the 12 pounder cannon using original documents and blueprints as well as surviving original examples.
