Funerary Cone of Inhermose (tomb undiscovered)
Probably from Thebes, New Kingdom, Dynasty 18
Harvard Semitic Museum 2000.5.3
Funerary cones (small cones made from clay) were placed over the entrance of the chapel of a tomb, forming a sort of frieze. Common in the New Kingdom, they were inscribed with the title and name of the tomb owner, often with a short prayer. The exact purpose of the cones is unknown.
“Revered one before Osiris, scribe of the works in the temple of Amunhotep III in the west of Thebes, Inhermose, justified before the great god.”
